Assam team leave today for North East Olympic Games

Assam contingent will leave for Shillong on Wednesday to take part in the North East Olympic Games.

GUWAHATI: Assam contingent will leave for Shillong on Wednesday to take part in the North East Olympic Games. The Games will officially kick off on November 10.

This time there will be 18 events in the Games and Assam will participate in 17 events which included football, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, golf, judo, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, tennis, wushu, karate, weightlifting and wrestling. While football teams are now in Shillong and already started their campaign in the Games, Karate, Weightlifting and Wrestling teams will travel later to participate in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the women team of Assam today lost their opening football match to Manipur by 0-6 which included one own goal. While L Babina scored hat-trick Shelia Devi and Lynda Kom scored the other two goals for Manipur. In their next game Assam will face Sikkim on November 12.

It will be the 2nd edition of the North East Olympic Games which will organize jointly by the Government of Meghalaya and the North East Olympic Association. The Games will officially start on November 10. Around 3000 athletes from different parts of the region will participate in the 7-day Games which will be held at 12 venues across Shillong.
