Athletic Association of Assam New Executive Committee Formed

GUWAHATI: The member secretary of the State level Advisory Committee for Student and Youth Welfare Lakhya Konwar and former cabinet minister of the State Rockybul Hussain were elected unanimously as the President and the Chairman of the Athletic Association of Assam (AAA) today. The new executive committee of the association was formed on Sunday in its Annual General Meeting which was held at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium in the city.
Except secretary all the members of the executive committee were elected unanimously. For the post of secretary contest was held between Sarif Ullah and Ashoke Bharali. Bharali won the contest by 84-49 margin.
However the last part of the meeting was marked by an unruly scene as a section of the former athletes and officials raised protest on the inclusion of Sarif Ullah’s name in the committee even though he lost election. The incident came in the light when the observer announced the full list of new committee. Sarif Ullah’s name was included as the special joint secretary. Finally Sarif Ullah was replaced by former athlete Kushal Lahan.
In a brief reaction to The Sentinel after the meeting the newly elected president Lakhya Konwar said, “We had glorious past in athletics and we will work hard to bring back those glorious period. We need full support and coordination from the former athletes of the state.”

Vice President: Biswaroop Bhattacharjee, Kalyan Gogoi, Rajan Barthakur, Apurba Bhattacharjee, Pradyut Bhuiya and Maguram Balari. Secretary: Ashoke Bharali. Senior Joint Secretary: Kushal Lahon. Joint Secretary: Dhansing Rongpi, Girish Barua, Nishar Alam, Abdul Jabbar and Karunjyoti Saikia. Treasurer: Babul Khan.
