Bhaichung Bhutia to inaugurate Veteran Football Championship Today

GUWAHATI: Host UBC will take on Duliajan in the opening game of the International Veteran Football Championship which will kick off at the Judges ground on Thursday. Former captain of Indian Football team Bhaichung Bhutia will inaugurate the meet and the inaugural function would also be attended by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The president of the UBC Club Pranoy Bordoloi informed the media that altogether 12 teams will participate in the 5th edition of the meet where footballers only above 40 years old are allowed to take part. Two teams from abroad, one from Bangladesh and the other one from Nepal, will be the part of the championship this year which final is slated for Sunday.
The champion team will collect a purse of Rs 50,000 while the prize amount for the runners-up team is Rs 30,000.
Bordoloi also added that former footballer Debashish Roy will be felicitated in the inaugural function along with two sports scribes Pabitra Gogoi and Bipul Barman respectively. The inaugural function would be followed by an exhibition match between Zubeen Garg XI and Journalists XI.
