DDK Lift Team Titles In NE Media Sports Festival

Guwahati: Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati annexed the men's team event title in the 13th TOPCEM-ASJA North-East Media Sports Festival which got under way at the Tarun Ram Phukan indoor stadium here today.

In the singles event Debojit Dutta of Asom Aditya and Harshita Bhagawati Kataki of Headline 8 lifted the men's and women's title. DDK, Guwahati blanked out The Assam Tribune 2-0 for the team honours. While Santanu Chakraborty got the better of Rituraj Borthakur 11-6, 11-7, Lokendro Singh defeated PJ Baruah 11-7, 11-8 in the two singles matches of the final. Gautam Sarma was the third member of the DDK team. On the other hand, Debojit Dutta defeated Lokendro Singh of DDK 11-7, 11-4 for the men's singles title. In the semifinals, Debojit Dutta blanked out Rituraj Borthakur of The Assam Tribune 2-0 and Lokendro Singh handed a 2-0 defeat to PJ Baruah of The Assam Tribune. In the women's singles, Harshita Bhagawati Kataki won the final beating Rimple Rajkumari of DDK 2-0.

The two-day Inter-Media Badminton Championship of the Sports Festival will be held at the same venue from Thursday. Badminton Association of India Secretary Omar Rashid will attend the opening ceremony.
