District Olympic games concludes at Shi-Yomi

Monigong circle emerged overall championship with 10 gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals, while Mechukha circle stood second with 5 gold and 4 silver.

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Pasang D Sona on Tuesday gave away the prizes to the winners of various disciplines of first Shi-Yomi District Olympic games at Mechukha. The first Shi-Yomi District Olympics games, which kicked off on March 18, was organized in Monigong and Mechukha respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker congratulated the Shi-Yomi District Olympics Association (SYDOA) for successfully conducting the events despite so many difficulties. He said the event is small but a significant one and will go a long way.

Appreciating the youths of district for enthusiastically participating in the games & sports events, the Speaker said, "The youths should channelize their potentials and avoid wasting their time in unproductive activities."

Games & sports not only helps build one's career but also keep them healthy and fit, the Speaker said while exhorting the youths to involve themselves in sports.

Asserting that drug menace is one of the biggest challenges state is facing today, the Speaker made a fervent appeal to the youths not to indulge in substance abuse.

Meanwhile, Monigong circle emerged overall championship with 10 gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals, while Mechukha circle stood second with 5 gold and 4 silver. Pidi circle bagged 2 gold and 2 silver medals stood 3rd while Tato circle was placed in 4th place with 1 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze. The newly created Rapum circle bagged 1 silver.

Among others present on the occasion were ADC Mechukha Bairo Sorum, DDSE Tato and organizing members, an official communique informed.
