GUWAHATI: Visiting teams will start to arrive in the city to participate in the 131st edition of the Durand cup from tomorrow. Odisha FC will land first and they will be followed by Kerala Blasters on August 16 and Sudeva Delhi FC on August 17. Local outfit NEUFC and Army Greens are the other teams in the group.

It will be the first occasion when Guwahati is going to host the prestigious Durand Cup Football Championship and Indira Gandhi Athletics stadium will be the venue of the competition for group 'D' clash. North East United FC will face Odisha FC in the opening game here and it will kick off at 5-30 pm. Before the opening match, there will be a brief opening ceremony at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium where popular singer Angarag Mahanta (Papon) and Rewban Mashangwa from Manipur will perform the theme song of the Durand Cup. There will also be a display of Army bands.

Meanwhile, sale of tickets for the Guwahati leg already started in two venues- SAI Sports Complex and Sarusajai Sports complex. There will be three types of tickets for the forthcoming competition which will cost Rs 50, Rs 100 and Rs 250.

It may be mentioned here that the Durand Cup is the symbol of India's football history which is also Asia's oldest football competition. Apart from Guwahati, the preliminary group league matches of the 131st edition of the meet will be held in Imphal, Naihati and Kolkata. There will be altogether 47th matches including the final and all the games will be televised Live.
