GUWAHATI: The 69th edition of the Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Football Championship will kick off on March 25. This time the competition will be held simultaneously in Mangaldoi and Guwahati.

Addressing a media gathering the president of the Guwahati Sports Association Pulak Goswami said, “Altogether 8 teams will participate in this edition of the meet and they are divided into two groups. The matches of group ‘A’ will be held in Guwahati and Mangaldoi will organize the matches of group ‘B’.”

He also added that in the first game at Mangaldoi on March 25 BSS Sporting Club, Kolkata will face United Chirang Duar FC. Guwahati leg will begin on March 26 with the match between ASEBSC and Assam Police Blues. Both the semi finals will be held at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on April 2 and final is slated at the same venue on April 4.

The champion team will receive a cash award of Rs 2 lakh and the runners up team will collect a purse of Rs one lakh. The media briefing was also attended by the secretary of GSA Dhrubajyoti Kalita, joint secretary Khanin Dutta and treasurer Chayaram Boro.

Group ‘A’: OILFC, Duliajan, ASEBSC, Guwahati, Lenruol FC, Lakhipur, Assam Police Blues. Group ‘B’: BSS Sporting Club, Kolkata, Hills United FC, Diphu, Umited Chirang Duar FC and Elevenstar Club, Bongaigaon.
