GUWAHATI: ACA stadium, Barsapara is all set to become the new venue of the Indian Premier League (IPL). If everything goes as per plan the stadium will host three matches of the tournament next year.

Guwahati is in the radar of IPL for the last couple of years. Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders showed interest to bring some of their matches in Guwahati last season but the plan was not materialized. This time it was Rajasthan Royals again who showed interest to host a few of their matches in Guwahati. It has been learnt that the request of Rajasthan Royals to organize three of their matches in Guwahati was approved in the meeting of COA.

Even though the CoA’s term is over and a new panel - has taken charge at the Board, it is unlikely that the decision will be overturned.

It may be mentioned here that representatives of Rajasthan Royals earlier this year visited the ACA stadium, Barsapara to inspect the facilities. They also discussed on different issues related to the matches with the Assam Cricket Association officials.

When contacted the Secretary of the Assam Cricket Association Devajit Saikia said, “We got the news but have not received any official confirmation. We are waiting for it.”
