Hima to focus more on 400m

GUWAHATI, Sept 8: Good condition, proper practice and good food can make a player perfect, feels new star in Indian sports Hima Das. Giving her as an example the athlete said that she reached at today’s position only because of those facilities she received in the early part of her career.

Talking to the media person here at the Sarusajai Sports Complex today Hima gave credit to her current coach Galina Bukharina for making consistence performance in the different international meets. “At the same time I also wish to give thanks to my earlier coaches also because their contribution were equally important in my life.”

Hima recently won four medals in two international meets. All four medals came in either 400mts individual or 400mts relay. The athlete today admitted that she wants to focus more in 400mts as apart from individual category. there are chances to perform well in the relay events too. At the same time she also made it clear that she had no plans to drop herself from the women 200mts.

Hima, who received injury during the Asian Games, yet to recover fully. “I am not recovered totally from the injury and need to take rest for some days. So I have not decided yet the time when I will return to the track again. It will be finalized after the consultation with my coach and the other support staff,” said Hama.

It may be mentioned here that because of this injury the athlete was forced to skip the IAAF Continental Cup which is scheduled to be held from today.

Asian Games gold medallist Hima Das said that she will continue to improve her timing and try to qualify for the Olympics in 2020.

"There is only two years for the Olympics and I do not know whether I will qualify or not but I will continue trying to improve my timing," Das told reporters on Saturday in Guwahati.

The ace sprinter from Assam, popularly called 'Dhing Express', further said that the Athletics Federation of India and Indian Olympic Association along with her coach will discuss and decide where she will train.

"Wherever they send us to practice, we will go," she said.
