GUWAHATI: She already set fire at the Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatic complex winning three gold and a silver medals from the swimming events of 3rd khelo India Games. In a chat with The Sentinel after the end of Saurday’s events Shivangi Sarma, the new sensation of Indian swimming, shares her experience in 3rd Khelo India and other areas. Here are the excerpts.

The Sentinel (TS): Already three gold and one silver medals from the pool. Good going at Khelo India Games.

Shivangi: Yes. Everything is going on as per expectations. I am happy to give four medals to my state from this Games.

TS: Do you have chances to win more gold here…

Shivangi: Yes. I have chances to win more gold medals from the pool, and I will try my best to get those medals on Sunday.

TS: Your home city is hosting the 3rd Khelo India Games. Any pressure on you!

Shivangi: Not at all. Khelo India Games is a big event, and I am happy to participate in the Games at my home town. It’s a great feeling that the entire crowed and the local officials are behind me. The atmosphere is electrifying, inspiring me to perform.

TS: You came out with stunning performance in the recently concluded SAF Games in Kathmandu. Share your experience.

Shivangi: Winning six medals was definitely a nice feeling for me. But I feel the Games helped me to learn several new things which would boost my experience. I am now a better swimmer.

TS: It’s because of you swimming in Assam is now a point of discussion at national level after a long gap. How have you taken yourself to that level?

Shivangi: I started swimming in Guwahati. However, for the past few years I have been training in New Delhi. My family members and coach are the persons behind my success. Our coach is giving more importance on improving timing rather than winning a medal, and it helps us to focus only one area and it is improvement. I’m now mentally and physically stronger.

TS: Any future goal?

Shivangi: After SAF Games I have set my target for the next Asian Games. I will work hard to become a part of the Indian team for the 2022 Games and also try to make podium finish.
