GUWAHATI: It finally happened as expected. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) today dissolved the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) committee the term of which expired over a year back, and constituted an ad hoc committee. The ad-hoc committee will also conduct the next election of the AOA, besides running its other activities.
The decision to dissolve the AOA committee was taken at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Indian Olympic Association held in New Delhi today. A source from the AOA today admitted the new development. He alleged, “The tenure of the current committee expired a year back, but no step has been taken to constitute the new committee. It was badly affecting the activities of the association. Even the accounts of the association were not passed.”
He added: “Many sports organizers and a section of AOA members already brought the matter to the IOA and sought its intervention.”
It has been learnt that the ad-hoc committee will get a month time to form the new committee and if requires it can conduct election also to form the same.
It may be mentioned here that the last Annual General Meeting of the AOA was held in July 2013 for a term of four years. Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his Cabinet colleague Rockybul Hussain were re-elected as the president and the secretary of the organization.
