Mangaldai: Finally the long felt dream for a full fledged Archery Academy at Khairabari of Bhergaon Sub Division in Udalguri district is going to see the light of the day! This has been evident from a letter issued by the Joint Secretary of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department requesting the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare to submit the proposal for setting up of the State Archery Academy at Khairabari Mini Stadium.

In the letter (SYW.14/2019/14 dated 24.01.2019) issued by the Joint Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare Department, the Director of Sports and Youth Welfare has been requested to submit the proposal for setting up of the State Archery Academy at Khairabari under SOPD for the year 2018-2019. Accordingly the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare has been taking the initiative to submit the proposal within a short period.

Mention may be made here that the locality of greater Khairabari area including Bhergaon are known as the hub of promising young archers besides the footballers and athletes. In the last Asian Games, young archer Pramila Daimary of Bhergaon has created a record as the first sports person from Udalguri and Darrang to take part in the Asian Games.

Earlier, Sanjay Boro had won the bronze medal in World Junior Archery Championship in USA, Mainao Narzary and Dipali Boro had bagged the Gold Medal in World Junior Archery Meet in Bangladesh. Highly inspired and encouraged with the rare achievements of promising archers Sanjay, Pramila, Mainao and Dipali, a good number of young archers from the age group of ten years are seen actively taking part in the Archery practice camp at Khairabari Sports Association ground regularly. But it is really a touching scene to see them practicing in the open field without caring for the scorching sun or incessant rain!
