GUWAHATI: The president of the Kho Kho Federation of India Sudhanshu Mittal, visited Guwahati during the recently concluded Asian Kho Kho Championship held at Tamulpur. During the meet he also spoke for a while to The Sentinel and highlighted the present scenario of the game. Here is the excerpt.

The Sentinel (TS): What is the present scenario of Kho Kho in India?

Mittal: Kho kho is developing very fast in the country. You may have noticed that even many players of different sports are promoting the game and it is because kho kho can improve the fitness level of players very quickly.

(TS): Any plan to promote the game in the North East

Mittal: Actually it is in our mind and we have already started to work on it. However I feel the game will gain instant popularity if we can put a team from the North East in the Ultimate Kho Kho. We are optimistic that a team from this region will soon make its debut in the game.

(TS): There is news that the first edition of Kho Kho World Cup will be held this year…

Mittal: Yes. It’s right. The first world Cup kho kho will be held in London during July-August. Good number of teams is expected to take part in the tournament.

(TS): What we can expect from India in the World Cup.

Mittal: We are favourite to win the title and I am optimistic that our teams will return victorious.

(TS): Do you feel the time has come to include the sports in Asian Games and Olympics?

Mittal: We are sincerely working on it. It will take a little time as you can’t include a game in the Asian Games or Olympics directly. First the game has to be included as a demonstration game. Kho Kho is already included as a demonstration Game in Asiad and I believe the game will be a medal winning sports in the particular competition very soon.
