Medhi arrested on charges of betraying basket ball players

GUWAHATI: City Police on Tuesday night arrested secretary of Basket Ball Association, Assam Mukut Medhi on charges of betraying of young players. Medhi was arrested following an FIR lodged at Paltan Bazar police station by the parents of under-14 basketball players of the State.

He was accused of betraying the players. Police sources said Medhi charged Rs 7,500 from each and every player who were recently sent outside Assam to participate in a national basket ball championship. Two teams of boys and girls consisting 12 members each were sent outside the State for the national championship.

Parents alleged that Medhi extracted a huge amount of money from players while the registration fee for each team was Rs 350. They also alleged that players were sent outside without the approval of the Basket Ball Federation of India.
