Ranji Trophy: Assam fail to take advantage

GUWAHATI: Jharkhand made a good comeback against Assam on Day I of Ranji Trophy tie in Ranchi today. Invited to bat, the local team, who made a good start in the innings, witnessed a sudden collapse and were struggling once at 151-4. However, the side recovered well and finally took their score to 266-6 at stumps.
Assam won the toss and invited to bat first. Mukhtar Hussain made debut for the visitors in the game. Jharkhand made a very good start in the innings and was once 108 for no loss. However, they quickly reduced to 176-5 and it looked like that Assam was going to take control of the game. But Utkarsh Singh, who came at number three, made a couple of good partnerships with the lower order batsmen which helped Jharkhand to return into the game. Utkarsh remained not out on 63 while the openers Kumar Deobrat (40) and Md Nazir (72, 4X10) were the other major contributors for the home team. Two top order batsmen- Saurav Tiwari (0) and Ishank Jaggi (15) failed to contribute a good score on the board.
Among the Assam bowlers, Ranjeet Mali bagged two wickets while Arup Das, Mukhtar Hussain, Rahul Singh, and Pallav Das picked up one wicket each.
