Ranji Trophy: Assam push Tripura to register their first victory

GUWAHATI: Assam needed just six wickets against Tripura to register their first victory of the season in Ranji Trophy at Agartala tomorrow. Chasing 428 runs to victory, home team were struggling at 68-4 at stumps on day III.

Assam started third day’s play from their overnight score 5-0 in the second innings and scored runs on a very quick pace before declared second innings 239-6. The highlight of the innings was a smashing knock from Riyan Parag who took just 64 balls to score 80 runs with the help of seven boundaries and three sixes. During the innings he also made a good partnership with Wasiqur Rahman (37) and their sixth wickets partnership produced 77 runs in just 11.2 overs. The other major contributors in Assam innings were Rishav Das (38), Sibsankar Roy (39) and Parvez Aziz (24).

Later Assam pacers forced Tripura to struggle in the second innings as the side were pushed into the wall. Tripura, played 27.3 overs in the day, scored 68 runs in the second innings losing four wickets. Home team still needed 360 for the victory and they have six wickets in their hand. Ranjit Mali picked up two wickets while remaining two was shared by Arup Das and Mukhtar Hussain.
