Ranjit Dutta North East Tennis from March 17

GUWAHATI: Racquets and Balls Tennis Association in collaboration with Kreeda Bharati will organize the 2nd Ranjit Dutta North East India Open Tennis Championship in Guwahati from March 17. The championship would be held at the RG Baruah Tennis court.

Addressing the media the president of the Racquets and Balls Anshuman Das today said, “Around 400 participants from the different parts of the North East will participate in the championship which would be held in five categories: U-10 Combined Boys and girls singles, U-13 Boys singles, U-14 Boys and Girls Singles, U-18 Girls singles and Open Men’s doubles.

The tournament is carrying total scholarship money of Rs one lakh. The most promising players of the meet will also receive Ranjit Dutta Scholarship Award.

Among others present in the media briefing was general secretary and treasurer of the organization Alok Kumar Tripathi and Pritam Goswami respectively along with the president of Kreeda Bharati Amal Deka.

Tripathi added, during the inaugural function they would felicitate and will also hand over the ‘Jija Mata Puraskar’ to the parents of those players of Assam who are performing well at the state and national level championship. The association is also decided to felicitate Anup Lahoty posthumously along with a few other top tennis players of the state like Susan Ds Choudhury and Runumee Das.
