GUWAHATI: Renowned sports organizer and former Secretary of the Assam Cricket Association as well as Guwahati Sports Association Rana Goswami passed away yesterday night at a city hospital here due to Covid-19. A resident of Uzan Bazar, he left behind his wife, a son and a daughter. He was 77.
President of Assam Cricket Association Romen Dutta as well as Secretary Devajit Saikia deeply mourn the demise of Goswami.
Former member of Legislative Assembly, Chaygaon LAC, Goswami had a long and illustrious association with Assam Cricket Association. He was the Secretary of ACA from 1986 to 1989 and 1989 to1992, its Vice President from 1992 to 95, and its Assistant Secretary from 1969 to 74 and 1974 to 77. Earlier, he had also served as the Joint Secretary of ACA from 1979 to 86, besides being a Governing Body Member from 1995 to 97.
Goswami also associated with Guwahati Sports Association. He was it's Cricket Secretary from 1969 to 74, Assistant Secretary from 1974 to 81, General Secretary from 1981 to 1990 and President from 1990 to 94, 1996 to 98, 2004 to 2006 and 2012 to 2014. Guwahati Sports Association mourn the demise of their former president.
President of Veteran Cricket Association of Assam (VCAA) Naba Konwar and Secretary Nasir Gul Khan are deeply shocked and saddened by the news of Goswami's demise.
The Guwahati Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) condoled the death of Goswami. In a release, Kalyan Kumar Das, President of GLTA said that all members prayed to the almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.
The Assam Sepak Takraw Association also shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden demise of Goswami. On be half of the association, Secretary Bishnu Ram Nunisa extended deepest condolence to his family.
