GUWAHATI: Assam made a solid start in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket Tournament defeating Hyderabad in a well contested match by 2 runs in Kolkata today. Chasing 160 runs to win Hyderabad scored 157-8 in their 20 overs.

It was the first game of the season for both the teams and was held under flood light. Hyderabad required 11 runs in their last over which was bowled by Pritam Das but they managed to collect eight runs.

Pritam Das, came out with best bowling figure for his side, picked up three wickets for 30 while Amlanjyoti Das took 2-26. Riyan Parag and Rahul Singh were the other wicket taking bowlers for Assam in the match. Himalay Agarwal (29) was the top scorer for Hyderabad.

Earlier invited to bat Assam made a poor start and were once 21-3 in 3.3 overs. However a matured knock from Riyan Parag and two supportive innings from Saahil Jain and Rajjakuddin Ahmed made the total attractive.

The match was just 7-ball old when captain Rishav (2) lost his wicket. He was quickly followed by other opener Pallav Kumar Das (13) and Abhisekh Thakuri (6) who was sent to bat at number three position. Denish Das (14) too failed to make a impressive start in the first game of the season.

But the match took a huge turn when Saahil Jain came into bat after the departure of Denish. Saahil and Riyan put quick 54 runs on the board in just 39 balls. Riyan generally preferred to go for big shots but today he played the role of sheet anchor and allowed other batsmen of his team to go for runs. Saahil put 31 runs from 21 balls with the help of three boundaries and two sixes before he got out.

Later Rajjakuddin and Riyan added another 48 runs from 21 balls to take the score 159-5 in 20 overs.

Riyan remained not out on 51 and he took only 40 balls to score those runs with the help of three four and two over boundaries. Rajjak, who also remained unbeaten on 31, played 15 balls and there were 3 fours and two sixes in his innings.
