GUWAHATI: The All Assam Football Players’ Association (AAFPA) today blamed it on the Assam Football Association (AFA) for providing poor facilities to the players who are attending the ongoing trial camp for Santosh Trophy. They demanded necessary facilities to the players immediately.
Addressing a media gathering, All Assam Football Players’ Association president Hem Das today said, “Santosh Trophy is a prestigious tournament. However, it looks like that the AFA has no idea about it. The trial-cum-selection camp of the meet currently going on in Diphu is in a pathetic state. Players have been made to sleep on the floor and the quality of food provided to them is substandard. The Assam Football Association must take some steps in this regard, that too, immediately.”
It may be mentioned here that the trial-cum-selection camp for the Santosh Trophy got underway at Diphu from January 19. 72 players attended the first phase of the camp and after preliminary selection the number of players has been reduced to 30. The North East Cluster of the competition will be held at Aizawl from the second week of February.
The secretary of the All Assam Football Players’ Association, Durga Boro, who was also present at media briefing, questioned the selection process of players in the camp. Boro said, “You would be surprised to listen that the AFA has appointed such people as selectors whose credentials are in doubt. How can you expect those people to select the best state-team for the meet?”
The players’ body is also not happy at the way the Baby League is being organized in the city. According to them, the organizers failed to provide basic facilities to the young players and that may be ominous for them.
