Sarbananda Sonowal urges to make Khelo India a grand success

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called upon the office bearers of various sports associations to work as ‘Team Assam’ so that the State can secure more medals in the forthcoming Khelo India Youth Games. Guwahati will host the event in January 2020.

Chairing the second executive committee meeting of the Assam Olympic Association in which he is the president, the Chief Minister said that concerted and synergistic efforts should be made from all sports associations and office bearers to make Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in the State, a grand success. He also said that since the mega sports event will be held in Guwahati, all sports associations should work together to ensure more medals for Assam.

Sonowal in the meeting took stock of the preparations of the all 20 disciplines that would feature in the event and asked the office bearers of the sports associations to leave no stone unturned to ensure that state-of-the-art training and coaching facilities are given to the players.

Sonowal also said that he would interact with the sportspersons who would represent the State in the Khelo India Youth Games.

Regarding the financial aspect, Chief Minister Sonowal stressed on maintaining transparency in all the activities where financial transactions are involved. The meeting also decided to form an enquiry committee under the chairmanship of Anup Choudhury to inquire on the allegation raised against the general meeting and election of the Silchar DSA which was held recently.

Secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Lakhya Konwar today informed the media that they received several allegations from different clubs of Silchar and so it was decided to do an enquiry. He also added, Mriganka Barman and Bishnuaram Nunisa will be the other members of the committee and it will submit its report within the next 15 days.

Meanwhile, it was also decided today that the loan amount, of around Rs 46 lakh, which was taken by previous committee, will not be released as no specific name was mentioned as to the source of the loan.

On the other hand, the logo of the forthcoming Khelo India Games will be launched in a function to held at the Sarujasai Sports Complex on November 30.
