Several Jr Assam players in Target Olympic Podium scheme

GUWAHATI: Several athletes from Assam included in the Target Olympic Podium (TOP) schemes for junior which was announced recently by the Sports Authority of India. The selection was made with an aim to groom the talented athletes for medal glory at 2024 and 2028 Olympics.

Altogether 258 talented youth from across the Country were selected for the scheme in 12 disciplines. Among the 258 athletes 16 are from athletics, 34 in archery, 27 in badminton, four in cycling, seven in table tennis, 70 in shooting, 14 in swimming, 11 in judo, 36 in boxing, 16 in weightlifting, five in rowing and 18 in wrestling.

The players from Assam who are included in the list are Sanjoy Boro and Promila Daimary (Archery), Ashmita Chaliha (Badminton), Jamuna Boro and Ankushita Boro (Boxing), Puja Basumatari (Judo), Hriday Hazarika (Shooting) and Sidhanta Gogoi (Weight Lifting). All the athletes will receive a monthly Out Of Pocket allowance of Rs 25,000.
