Shahil, Anchita win title in Selection Meet for National School Games Chess

GUWAHATI: Shahil Dey of Maria’s Public School and Anchita Sharma of Sarla Birla Gyanjyoti clinched the title in Boys Category and Girls category of Selection Meet for National School Games Chess 2019 (under-17). The meet was organized by Guwahati Chess Academy under the aegis of Director of Sports, Assam in Guwahati Chess Academy Premises in the city.

Shahil scored 5 points from 6 rounds and remain unbeaten throughout the tournament. Manthan Kashyap Dutta of Delhi Public School scored 4.5 points and got second position. Nihad Islam Hazarika of Maria’s Public School and Dhrupad Kashyap of Sarla Birla Gyanjyoti also scored 4.5 points each but they are declared third and fourth respectively. Achitanga Kashyap (4points) finished fifth.

In girls category Anchita remain unbeaten throughout the tournament by scoring 5.5 points from 6 rounds. Medha Barooah of SFS School got second position with 4 points from 6 rounds. Dipnalisha Borah of Maria’s Public School and Urza Hazarika also from Maria’s Public School also scored 4 points each from same number of round but they are declared third and fourth respectively on the basis of tie-break score. Baibhabi Baruah (2 points) bagged the fifth spot.

Altogether 32 players of different schools from Guwahati, Kamrup (Rural), Lakhimpur, Jorhat, and Tinsukia District participated in the selection meet.
