Solid start by Assam in the run chase against Tripura in Ranji Trophy tie

GUWAHATI: Assam made a good start in their run chase against Tripura in the Ranji trophy tie here today. In reply to Tripura’s first innings total 497 Assam finished the day II 162-1 in their first innings. Opener Rishav Das remained not out on 88 and captain Gokul Sharma is giving him accompany on 39.

There is absolutely nothing on the wicket for the bowler and Assam took full advantage of it. Openers Rishav and Subham Mondal gave good start to the team adding 72 runs on the first wicket. Subham lost wicket on his individual score 33 which brought Gokul in the ground. Captain and Rishav spent the remaining part of the days on the wicket without facing any troubles. The duo faced 30.2 overs and added 90 runs on the second wicket.

Rishav took himself close to pick up his first century of the season. The opener, already missed two tons this year, is batting on 88 runs (192 balls) and there are 9 boundaries in his innings. Gokul faced 87 balls to score 39 runs and there are four hits to the fence.

Earlier Tripura, started from their overnight score 7-387, were bowled out 497 in the first innings. Mura Singh completed century today before got out on 118 (152 balls, 4X15, 6X1).

Among the bowlers of Assam Ranjeet Mali finished with 5-114, his third five-wicket haul in the season. The other wickets were shared by Mrinmoy Dutta (2-108), Riyan Parag (1-85) and Gokul Sarma (1-39).
