Team Digboi Set to participate in Yonex Badminton C’ship

DIGBOI: A spirited eleven-member squad representing Digboi Sports Association of the historic Oil town Digboi is all set to participate in the 67th Yonex Sunrise All Assam Inter-district and Open Badmintan Championship 2019 slated to be held from September 2 to 7 at Diphu.

The annual tourney is organized by Karrbi Anglong Sports Association under the aegis of Assam Badminton Association for the first time here in hilly district of Karrbi Anglong.

“My squad comprising 11 players for different format including the singles and doubles for male and female category have been adequately trained to face the challenges in the arena that might be stiff against the last year defending champion,” said Bikram Sinha the coach Digboi sports Association adding ‘my team looks strong and balance and the presence of double specialists adding values to the team make me enough optimist on the outcome of the event’.

According to the Anurav Gogoi the team Manager cum one of the participants of the event in male catagory, Abhisek Borah, Keshab Chetry, Jyoti Krishan Dutta, Barneel Sarma, Udayan Saikia would take the rivals in male category while AAraina Sonowal, Aayushi Bhuyan,Nishita Dutta and Bandita Sarma would strive in the female category for different format including the singles and doubles.

Meanwhile, Pankaj Teron the general secretary of the Karrbi Anglong Sports Association when contacted informed that the preparation to hold the maiden event is afoot on war footings and all required arrangements of amenities and services to the participating players is accorded with priority.

“As of now 17 teams have confirmed their participation but it might land around 20 at the end,”said Terong adding that the events in the tourney comprises U-11 boys and girls singles while U-13 to U-19 on singles and doubles formats for both the boys and girls segment. There would be Singles and doubles for men while for women doubles it is subject to the number of entries that must have 8 entries at least.
