GUWAHATI: North East United FC(NEUFc) will start their campaign in season V of ISL on Monday with the game against FC Goa. The match will kick off at the India Gandhi Athletic Stadium at 7-30 in the evening.
NEUFc is the only franchise in the ISL which haven’t made it into the playoffs ever and would definitely try their best to break the jinx this season.
Eelco Schattorie, after being brought in midway through last season to assist Avram Grant, has now been asked to take over the team. The former East Bengal coach today admitted that his side is young and very enthusiastic. However, the team needs little stability in the performance.
Talking to the media persons at the sideline of his team’s preparation at the Sarusajai Sports Complex this afternoon Schattorie said, “My team is very young and possibly the youngest side in the competition. It’s good as there would be huge enthusiasm in the team. However, there is always a problem with the young team. One day it can play superb football and the next day they fail to deliver as per the expectation. So we need stability in our performance and we are working hard to achieve it.”
Talking about the opponents in the competition Schattorie felt, FC Goa is one of the best team to watch this season. “FC Goa is very balanced side. They managed to keep almost same squad that played last season.”
However NEUFc made drastic changes in their team this season which may be a major concern for Schattorie during the early stage of the competition. 14 new Indian players joined the squad this year and the number of new signing of foreign players is seven. The most notable signing among them is former PSG striker Bartholomew Ogbeche. The Nigerian striker has represented his country 11 times and he knows the goal very well.
