BISWANATH CHARIALI: A felicitation programme was held here at the Sahitya Sabha Bhawan on Sunday under the initiative of Biswanath District Wushu Association. The players under Biswanath District Wushu Association, who participated in several international, national and north-eastern events during the year 2022-23, were felicitated by the association. The public meeting was presided over by president Nihar Saikia while the objec-tives were explained by the general secretary of the association Padma Zairu.

The meeting also specially felicitated Nang Ningshi Borphukan, the young athlete who brought glory to Biswanath by participating in the international event held in Russia with the financial assistance of the Indian govern-ment and Akash Pradhan, the only player from Biswanath to finish fourth in the National Games.

In the meeting, the association informed that the players of Biswanath Wushu Association have been able to get a total government scholarship of Rs. 16,69,000 due to their success in participating in various national and state competitions in the past. Apart from this, the players Prantika Borah, Sneha Borah and Diksha Tiwari who were able to win medals in the national events, are currently being trained by the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The programme was also attended by social workers Amrit Hazarika, Niranjan Hazarika, Ajit Das, Biswanath Sports Association’s Joint Secretary Rajen Das, AASU leader Bikram Bikram Borah and others.
