Following the recent attacks on farmers, the security forces in Manipur have increased vigil in the agricultural belts. While the cultivation season continues, authorities are trying to stop any violence.

In order to protect farmers, especially in delicate and conflict-prone areas, more police have been deployed in both the hill and valley districts, according to the Manipur Police Control Room on Thursday.

The action comes after a wave of violence, which included the June 19 shooting death of a 60-year-old farmer in the Bishnupur district's Phubala rice field. A woman was slain in a purported crossfire at Chingphei in the Churachandpur district a few hours later.
The Chief Secretary, DGP, and senior representatives from all security forces attended a security meeting on June 28 that was presided over by the Manipur Security Adviser in the midst of the turmoil. The summit recommended for tighter coordination between the Central and State forces and evaluated the current security procedures.

The police control room stated, "Central security forces and Manipur Police personnel have been deployed in vulnerable farming areas." Redeployments were made to strengthen the current security, especially in and around Phubala. While top officers are visiting high-risk areas to oversee on-ground arrangements, SPs have been instructed to follow improved protocols.
In order to provide targeted surveillance and security, vulnerable farmlands are being mapped. To flush out armed elements, combing operations are currently underway in the interior hill regions and on the outskirts.
