Imphal: Just Two days ahead of polls in Manipur, at least two people including a child were killed and five others injured in an explosion at a house in Churachandpur district on Saturday night.

According to reports, the explosion in Gangpumul village is believed to have been caused by a mortar.

The reports also claimed that at least seven people including children were seriously injured in the blast and later taken to the hospital where Mangminlal, 6 and a person named Langinsang, 22, succumbed to their injuries.

Soon, after the explosion, senior police officials and reinforcements rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to catch those responsible for the explosion.

Notably, this was the first such incident of explosion after the Manipur assembly election dates were announced on January 8.

The elections to the 60-seat Manipur assembly will be held in two phases on Monday and Saturday. Votes will be counted on March 10.
