Guwahati: Two more persons in Manipur have tested positive for the dreaded Covid-19 on Tuesday night, taking the tally of cases in the state to 41.

The two persons, originally residents of the Thoubal district, were declared as carriers of the deadly contagion after their samples were tested for traces of the virus at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Imphal.

Khoirom Shashikanta, additional health director who is also the government spokesperson, has informed that out of the total 41 cases in the state, as many as 37 are active as four persons have already fully recovered. Official sources said that the increase in the number of infected persons could be attributed to the return of stranded people. Meanwhile, 454 samples were tested at the RIMS yesterday, amid the state Health department's efforts to ramp up testing with the rising number of cases.

Meanwhile, the number of cases continue to show a sharp spike amid the return of stranded citizens. In Assam, the tally of cases has breached the 700-case mark, as cases have risen to 704, with 635 active cases and 4 deaths.
