82 officers sacked in Manipur over ‘Irregularities’ in State Civil Service Exam

Imphal: As many as 82 officers were terminated by the Manipur government after a court order on pleas alleging irregularities in the state civil services examination conducted in 2016.

An order issued by the state Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Personnel Division) said their appointment letters issued on April 18, 2017, have been cancelled in compliance with the Supreme Court's November 22 verdict.

As per reports, the unsuccessful candidates filed pleas alleging irregularities in the Main Examination conducted by the Manipur Civil Service Commission (MPSC) in 2016, alleging irregularities.

Following which the high court formed a two-member panel to probe the matter. The probe revealed "irregularities and discrepancies", including the absence of examiners' signatures on answer scripts, manipulation of marks. It was also evident that marks were given without evaluation of the answer scripts.

The appointments were cancelled on October 18th by the high court and the case was given to the Central Bureau of Intelligence to probe the exam within a time frame of three months. The successful candidates then filed a petition before the Supreme Court, appealing against the order, but it was dismissed on November 22.
