IMPHAL: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has sharply criticized Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's public apology for the state's violent unrest, calling it "inadequate." He also accused Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to adequately manage the situation.

Addressing the issue, the senior Congress leader went on to point out that the violence in Manipur involved incidents of rape and oppression leading to the death of more than 250 people. He asked why decisive action from the state and central governments was not taken during the conflict. Gehlot further asked why CM Biren Singh was not removed earlier, as the situation was extreme.

"While the Manipur Chief Minister has apologized, the events that transpired there are beyond forgiveness," Gehlot said. He underlined the need for proactive leadership, stating that the delay in addressing the unrest has hurt the people of the state very much.

Gehlot further said that the Prime Minister should have shown exemplary leadership by going to Manipur during the turmoil. He also criticized Home Minister Amit Shah for failing to demonstrate state priority when it was required.

He said that the chief minister, Biren Singh, should have resigned much earlier because he had a major responsibility in the unrest and its aftermath.
