IMPHAL: The BJP has called a crucial meeting on February 12 to discuss who would be the next Chief Minister of Manipur following the resignation of N. Biren Singh from the post yesterday. All the BJP MLAs from Manipur are being summoned in New Delhi to discuss the replacement of Singh as the highlight of the meeting.
As per reports, ten Kuki MLAs are also likely to attend the meeting; however, it is not confirmed. The new Chief Minister will be announced shortly after the meeting by the BJP leadership, keeping in mind that the decision will be taken by consensus among the party members.
Meanwhile, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has asked N. Biren Singh to continue as Chief Minister till a new Chief Minister is finalized. He has also revoked the earlier order for summoning the 7th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, which was to begin on February 10.
The developments come at a time when the political dynamics of the state are still afoot. CM N. Biren Singh quit after dissent within the BJP grew over his handling of the state's crisis. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh suggesting it as a move to avoid a no-confidence motion. The political situation in Manipur is, meanwhile, unclear as the state and its leadership await clarity on the immediate future.
