IMPHAL: After a short lull in violent activities in Manipur, a bomb blast in Ukhrul district on Monday evening left five people seriously injured.

According to reports, the IED (improvised explosive device) blast took place in between the Makhan Store and Viewland Baptist Church in Ukhrul at around 6 pm on Monday.

Those injured in the blast were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. According to eyewitnesses, the blast was powerful enough to cause damage to nearby buildings and vehicles. The area was cordoned off by the police and an investigation launched into the incident.

A similar incident had taken place in the same district just 15 days ago and is the third to have occurred in the state in the past 3 months.

A week before, a blast occurred had taken place at the Mini Secretariat premises, and now another bomb blast occurred, leading to speculation about the motives of the perpetrators. The local authorities are investigating the violent incidents.

The authorities have become concerned with the repeated incidents of violence in Ukhrul. There is a fear psychosis among the local residents due to the frequent occurrences of bomb blasts in the area. The people have been urged by the authorities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.

The Manipur government has condemned the attack and all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the people in the state was promised. The government has also requested the people to cooperate with the authorities and pass on any information that may help in identifying the culprits behind the attack.

Immediate steps were urged of the Manipur government to curb the proliferation of arms and explosives in the state owing to the recent incidents of violence in Manipur. The authorities were also urged to identify the root causes of the problem and prevent such incidents from occurring in the state.

No group has claimed responsibility for the IED blast.

On January 16, three people sustained injuries in a bomb blast that took place at Community Circle (Gandhi Chowk) in Ukhrul town at around 5 pm in Manipur's Ukhrul.

Reports said that three people, including a woman, were crossing the road when a suspected hand grenade exploded, leaving them injured.
