Imphal: In a very shocking state of affairs, the health workers in Manipur's Changangei Community centre is fighting the deadly coronavirus with their cellphone's torchlight as the power supply has been disconnected by the Local club's members. The centre is tasked with the screening of flight passengers.

This is because the members of the Local club do not want testings to be conducted in the area. The testing for the virus has been going on for around two months in this centre.

The health workers have alleged that the members of the local club are not cooperating due to the stigma associated with the virus. A health worker said that they are corona fighters, but the club has disconnected power supply in their centre. Due to which, they have to perform their duties with mobile phone torch, which is very unfortunate.

Manipur has seen a surge in the COVID-19 cases of the state in the last few weeks. The numbers have been rising at a steady and alarming rate.

The screening of the passengers who reach Manipur via flight is among the most important step to control the import of the virus. Many health workers are working 24×7 to help in the screening of the passengers who arrives at the airport.

The COVID-19 warriors have faced a lot of insults and neglect from the people around them. This discourages them the most. The health workers are working day and night to keep the virus away, and people, in place of appreciating them, are only making it hard for them to keep doing their work. One can only fight the pandemic if everyone cooperates and come together in these difficult times.

The active COVID-19 cases in Manipur is 3,068. The total number of cases in the state were 21,425, out of which 18,144 recovered. The number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 213 in Manipur.
