Drugs worth crores seized in Manipur; Three apprehended
Manipur Police on Monday seized illicit party drugs worth Rs 14 crore in Imphal West District. So far three persons have been apprehended in this connection.
IMPHAL: Manipur Police on Monday seized illicit party drugs worth Rs 14 crore in Imphal West District. So far three persons have been apprehended in this connection.
Acting on a tipoff, Police intercepted two trucks near the Kanglatongbi-Shantipur area. Following a search operation around 1.4 lakhs of WY tablets were recovered. The items were concealed in the bonnets of the vehicles.
Upon further interrogation it came to light that the persons were transporting the drugs to Guwahati to supply to an agent who resides there. The law enforcement officials have intensified their operations in and around Imphal city.
In another operation, Police busted a brown sugar manufacturing factory in Churachandpur District in Manipur on Monday.Various equipments, tools and chemicals used to manufacture narcotics were seized.
The border State of Manipur is close to the 'Golden Triangle' in South-East Asia (encompassing Laos, Myanmar and Thailand). As a result, drug trafficking has surged in the State. The double menace of drug trafficking and drug abuse are rapidly spreading its tentacles in Manipur despite the increasingly larger hauls on record. (Agencies)
