Guwahati: The first Manipur International Textile Expo (MANITEX) was inaugurated on Monday at Manipur Trade and Expo, Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal by CM N Biren Singh. Two Memorandum of Agreements (MoAs) were signed on the occasion. The CM also distributed looms to 1815 weavers.
The 1st agreements was signed between the Director of handloom and textiles, K. Lamlee Kamei as a representative of State Government and proprietor of Big Concept Pvt Ltd, L. Niranjan Singh. on increasing the productivity of garments and apparel in the state. The 2nd agreement on geo-tagging the weavers who received loom in the expo was signed between K. Lamlee Kamei and vice-president of Karvy Data Management Pvt Ltd, Shridhar. This was done to track down whether the beneficiaries are utilising the looms effectively or not
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh said that the women of Manipur have been playing a pivotal role in enhancing the socio-economic status of the state since time immemorial. So to give them persistent support and encouragement, this new initiative is a must to do step by the government. Further lauding the efforts of the women in the state, the CM said, Without their hard work and dedication, the state would not be able to reach the global market.
Talking about the welfare schemes taken by the state government in the state, the CM said, that Within the last one and half year of his governance, many welfare programmes have been undertaken to bridge the gap between hills and valley at one time
On the occasion, Singh also announced a sum of Rs10 lakh toTakhellambam Mandakini who had entered the final round of the Saregamapa Zee TV singing contest as a token of appreciation and encouragement, the state government irrespective of any position she bags after the final round.
Most of the MLAs and cabinet ministers along with many weavers from various far-flung areas of the state were also present on the function.
