AIZAWL: The 10-day celebration of the Manipur Sangai Festival of 2022 was flagged off on Monday. Union Minister of Tourism, G K Reddy was present for the inaugural function along with chief minister N Biren Singh and several other dignitaries.

The union minister G K Reddy inaugurated the Sangai Ethnic Park in Moirang Khunou of the Bishnupur district of the state. He also released two coffee table books to commemorate the event, namely the Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 and the Manipur Today Special Edition on Sangai Festival . The dignitaries also interacted with the representatives of different communities in the Sangai Ethnic Park.

Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh mentioned that the festival this year is celebrated as the 'Festival of Oneness' to encourage a sense of belongingness, and pride in ownership of the land among the people of Manipur.

This year's Manipur Sangai Festival will be organised in 13 separate venues distributed over six districts of the state. The ten-day celebration will come to a close on November 30 and will have a wide range of events ranging from trekking to local games.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister went ahead to invite people from all across the country to visit the state of Manipur and take part in the celebrations. He also expressed his appreciation and gratitude towards the people and the government of the state for making this event possible. "I am lucky to meet groups of 33 different communities in one place, who have come to represent their communities in the festival," the minister added while saying that he will share the details with the prime minister as well.

The minister also mentioned that India will be the host for the next G20 Summit. Several events will take place across the country to mark the occasion and he hoped that some of them can take place in the Northeast Indian state of Manipur.
