Just In: Kolkata-Returned Manipur Nurse Tests Positive for Covid-19; Total 4

Guwahati: Close on the heels of the discovery of its third Covid-19 positive case on May 14, Manipur has reported yet another case of the coronavirus. The total number of cases now sits at 4.

Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of the state health department, said in a statement that the fourth positive case, confirmed on May 15, is a nursing professional who returned from Kolkata recently amid the return of locals who have been stranded in other states amid the lockdown. The patient is now admitted in JNIMS (Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences), where the third person is also being treated.

The statement said that "all the close contacts of these two active cases are under close surveillance and all other necessary precautionary measures (have been) put in place."

The statement further informed that till date, 1,900 samples have been tested, and only four samples have been tested positive. The first two patients were discharged from Manipur Hospitals on April 12 and 21 last and the third case was reported after an interval of 3 weeks on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the state administration is awaiting the arrival of 'special trains' ferrying Manipur residents from Bengaluru and Vadodara.
