IMPHAL: Authorities arrested 13 drug users, including four females, along with 28 vials of heroin powder in and around Khetrigao in Manipur's Imphal East district over the past 24 hours.

Abdul Rajak, vice president of the Khetrigao Meitei Pangal United Clubs (KMPUC), informed the press on Saturday that the anti-drug unit of the KMPUC had caught these individuals during a special drive. The age of the arrested individuals ranges from 24 to 40 years.

The heroin powder was recovered from four female drug users who had purchased it from two female drug pushers—Yumkhaibam Bebe and Yumkhaibam Albani, daughters of Yumkhaibam Toibi, a resident of Khetrigao. The confiscated drugs were subsequently destroyed by fire in the presence of the media.

The arrested drug users were handed over to their relatives after counseling. KMPUC volunteers gave the two female drug pushers a week to surrender.

Manipur police earlier in June arrested an alleged drug peddler along with heroin powder weighing 230 grams in an operation in the Imphal west district, an official statement said on Wednesday.

During the search operation, the police recovered 20 soap cases of heroin, locally called No-4, weighing 230 grams, worth around Rs 30 lakhs in the international black market. The arrested peddler has later been identified as Md. Saruk Khan (31 years).
