IMPHAL: Following the appeal of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and public awareness campaigns by District Police, Assam Rifles, and CRPF, civilians and community groups in Manipur have begun surrendering illegally held weapons. On Sunday, 20 illegal weapons were voluntarily surrendered by the public in Imphal East, Bishnupur, Jiribam, and Imphal West districts.

In another operation, Manipur Police arrested two individuals for possessing 20 soap cases suspected to contain brown sugar weighing 828 grams. The arrest took place near Upper Kathikho Karong at KSTC waste dumping area in Senapati district. A four-wheeler used in the transportation was also seized, according to an official statement.

Additionally, two active cadres of KCP (PWG) were arrested from the hilltop of Ngariyan Hill under Irilbung police station in Imphal East district. The duo were allegedly involved in arms transportation, extortion from the public, private firms, and government officials. Security forces recovered two 9mm pistols with magazines, two Chinese-made hand grenades, and ten 9mm live ammunition rounds from their possession. Meanwhile, security forces dismantled an illegal bunker in Haraothel under Leimakhong police station in Kangpokpi district.

Earlier, a search operation in Sairemkhul under Lamshang police station in Imphal West district led to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives. The seized items included one 5.56mm INSAS Light Machine Gun (LMG) with a magazine loaded with 20 rounds, one AK-56 rifle, multiple Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs) with varying rounds of ammunition, one 9mm SMG Carbine with a loaded magazine, a .303 rifle, and a DBBL gun of Standard Gun Works.
