IMPHAL: Manipur’s Ukhrul police, in a joint team operation with 6 MR, the forest department, 18 Assam Rifles, and the district administration, led to the destruction of 50 acres of poppy cultivation in the Khamasom Hill Ranges on December 13.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh praised the achievement on his official X handle, revealing that the recent destruction of poppy cultivation has increased the total area cleared to 160 acres in the past few days.
He also mentioned that security personnel had set fire to nine huts discovered in the fields. An FIR has been filed to facilitate further investigation into the matter. The Manipur CM stated, "Our mission to eradicate drugs from the state remains uncompromising."
Previously, security personnel carried out a joint operation that led to the destruction of 110 acres of illegal poppy plantations in the Khamasom Hill Ranges. The combined team also set fire to eight huts found in the fields within the Ukhrul PS jurisdiction. The operation is part of the Manipur police's ongoing and relentless efforts to combat poppy cultivation.

According to them, a combined team from the Khamasom Hill district administration, Assam Rifles, the Forest Department, and the district police carried out the operation.
They stated that eight cottages discovered in the fields were also destroyed by fire. According to the police, a formal complaint has been filed and an investigation is currently under progress.
The security forces were praised by Chief Minister N Biren Singh for the operation's success. "Your hard work and determination are making a significant difference in safeguarding our future," he said in a post on X.
