Guwahati: Assam Rifles on Sunday said it has Apprehended an active insurgent of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) from Manipur's Thoubal district.

Acting on a tip-off, the the Keithelmanbi Battalion of the Assam Rifles along with the Manipur Police launched an operation on Saturday and nabbed the cadre of PLA.

"ASSAM RIFLES APPREHENDS PLA INSURGENT IN MANIPUR Keithelmanbi Battalion of #AssamRifles on 20 Aug, launched an operation with Manipur Police and apprehended an active insurgent of proscribed group People's Liberation Army (PLA) from Thoubal District, Manipur," Assam Rifles tweeted.

As per reports, the arrested cadre has been handed over to the Khongjom Police Station for further investigation.

On August 5, security forces deployed in the Longding district achieved a major breakthrough by arresting a self-styled insurgent, Azen Wangsu, from Zedua village.

Based on specific intelligence input, a joint team of the Longding Battalion of Assam Rifles and Longding police tracked the movement of Azen Wangsu from the Myanmar border to the Longding district over several days.

The security forces nabbed the insurgent near Zedua village while he was involved in extorting money from Longding town.

According to the police sources, during the initial interrogation, Wangsu revealed that he was assigned as revenue secretary of the Tirap and Longding districts. He has confessed to his involvement in extortion attempts on behalf of NSCN K-YA.

The arrested cadre has been handed over to the Longding police and an FIR has been registered.

The arrest of the insurgent is a massive blow to the illegal extortion and recruitment network of NSCN K-YA in the Tirap and Longding districts.

It was a big relief for the locals of Nocte and Wancho Region, who were continuously threatened by the dreaded insurgent.
