IMPHAL: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Manipur on Wednesday accused the Congress of having links with Kuki-Zo organizations, pointing to shared demands such as the imposition of President’s Rule in the conflict-hit state.

BJP state general secretary K. Sharatkumar made the claim at a press conference, claiming that the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) had recently approached Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to introduce a "Kuki Political Solution Bill" for a separate Union Territory for the Kuki-Zo community. "The letter exposes the connection between Congress and Kuki groups," he alleged.

Sharatkumar further said that both Congress and Kuki organizations have been making the same demands, which include the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The BJP leader alleged that, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Kuki Inpi Manipur released notices where it instructed Kuki voters to vote for Congress candidates, so they will support the demand of the separate political administration.

Sharatkumar further added that Kuki separatist groups, even those with a Suspension of Operations agreement, have been in league with the Congress to influence the process of elections.

He has connected the violence which broke out on May 3, 2023, to PS Haokip, the Myanmar-born president of the Kuki National Organisation (KNO). Sharatkumar has pointed out that viral videos featuring members of the Kuki National Army using high-tech weapons are symptomatic of foreign interference in the disturbances.

The Congress has not yet reacted to the charges.
