IMPHAL: The Manipur Forest Department commemorated International Day of Forests 2025 in a festive way at the Imperial Hall, Classic Grande in Chingmeirong, Imphal, following the theme "Celebrating Forests and Foods."

The celebration emphasized the importance of forests in maintaining ecosystem sustainability, food security, and environmental conservation.

Prominent officials in attendance included Anurag Bajpai, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Arun Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary for Forest, Environment & Climate Change, and Soreiphy Vashum, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Administration & Planning).

The festivities started with a ceremonial watering of the Heirengoi plant, symbolizing a commitment to forest conservation.

R.K. Amarjit Singh, Conservator Forests Central Circle, read the welcome address, placing emphasis on people's participation and Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) towards conserving forest ecosystems. An exhibition had on display forest-based products from different districts, with Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVK) members exhibiting their products, highlighting the economic importance of judicious use of forest products.

In his keynote speech, Anurag Bajpai discussed the value of forests in terms of biodiversity and food security and called for joint action to conserve them. Arun Kumar Sinha gave a talk on climate change problems and market prospects of VDVK products. Technical sessions "Food Security through Forests" and "Job Opportunities in Forests" formed part of the event, the vote of thanks being given by Vikram Suresh Nadhe, IFS DFO/Central Forest Division. The celebration reaffirmed the commitment to sustainable forest management and community well-being.
