IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reiterated the importance of collaboration with veterans of armed forces to make the law-and-order situation better in the state that has been badly affected due to the on-going strife. The Chief Minister while speaking on the occasion of 9th Armed Forces Veterans' Day-2025 organised at the 1st Battalion, Manipur Rifles Hall, Imphal welcomed suggestions made by veterans with a positive aim towards peace and normalcy.

During the event, the Chief Minister announced that ex-gratia payment for ₹10 lakhs would be made to those soldiers who had lost their lives in the line of duty. He also shared that the government has sanctioned ₹3 crores for the development of a memorial park dedicated to the soldiers who belonged to the state of Manipur and were martyred to the nation that would be developed at Lamphelpat.

Singh noted that approximately 350 officers from Manipur are currently serving in the combined defense forces, including two who have attained the rank of Lieutenant General in the Indian Army. He highlighted a recent meeting with the Commanding Officer of a nuclear submarine from the state.

The Chief Minister lauded efforts by the central government to reduce reliance on foreign defense procurement through its Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which intends to boost self-reliance in defense. He also paid tributes to Major Laishram Jyotin Singh and Major Bob Khathing for their valour and sacrifices.

Apart from that, Singh also unveiled rejuvenation plans of Lamphelpat Water Bodies covering 430 acres approximately costing around ₹650 crore.
