IMPHAL : Manipur chief minister Biren Singh has said that attempts must be made to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels in the state. That it is important to fight against global warming. The minister also stated that efforts must be initiated by the people to use more renewable energy.

'In order to fight the issue of global warming we need to find ways and make efforts to minimize the use of fossil fuels and take into consideration other available renewable and sustainable sources of energy '' said Biren. He made this statement in the inaugural ceremony of the two day awareness cum workshop on ' Electric Vehicles, Charging Infrastructure and Renewable Hybrid Energy in NE India.'' at the city convention center of Imphal East. Here, he also introduced the public to the 'Manipur Electric Mobility Policy, 2022'.

The policy focuses on facilitating adoption of at least 20 percent EVs in Manipur by 2026. Tiny bonuses are also provided in the purchase of new EVs for the government departments.

Biren also highlighted the fact that with the rapid growth of urbanization and increase in population, the number of vehicle ownership has also increased. This is directly affecting the traffic congestion, which is giving rise to polluted air quality. The vehicle emission from petrol and diesel vehicle is the prime concern for the health of the entire urban population, added the minister.

Not just the health of people, the carbon emission also affects climate change, emphasizing the need to bring on the EVs. Biren believes that adoption of electronic vehicle globally is a effective solution to prevent further vehicular pollution. He also says that India is taking various measures to promote EVs in the country under the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Supporting this fact he further continues by saying that the PM had also recently set India in path to achieve Net-Zero Carbon by 2070.
