IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the drone bombing that happened recently in Kangchup Foothill in Imphal West and termed it an "unfortunate" incident. The attack happened on January 14 around 9:30 PM near the 5th Manipur Rifles (MR) camp targeting a temporary facility within the area.
In a statement to the media, Singh stated, "Though incidents of violence have come down over the last couple of months, the drone bombing was indeed an unfortunate event." He also promised that the law enforcement agencies were already probing the case with a lot of enthusiasm so that culprits behind this crime can be dealt with according to law.
The bombing included two explosives that are thought to have been released by drones flown by Kuki militants. The explosives detonated near a bunker located in the camp; however, no injuries have been reported in the aftermath of the attack. Following an incident at Koutruk in Imphal West in September 2024, this is the second drone attack in the area in recent months.
The authorities have taken the remains of the bombs and associated devices, and forensic experts and police have collected those remnants for further investigation. Lamshang police have filed a case and are following leads to identify the attackers. This will help enhance security in the area and prevent such incidents from happening again in the future.
