The festival was streamed live from 2 pm on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc on January 9. Mao, where the festival took place, is not only a major tourist place but also an important hill station for reaching other beautiful tourist spots like Dzuko Valley and Mount Iso, which happens to be the highest peak of Manipur.
The virtual Cherry Blossom Festival at Mao, Manipur was jointly organised by the Department of Tourism and Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), Shillong in association with the Organising Committee Flower Festival, Mao.
The cherry blossom, also known as Prunus cerasoides, also covers the whole of east and west Khasi hills. These gorgeous and vibrant flowers grow in the wild but can be spotted across the state during the months of October and November in Meghalaya.
The International Cherry Blossom Festival which is celebrated in Shillong was cancelled too for the global pandemic.
Japan is renowned for its cherry blossom festival too. However, the flowers bloom in Japan during the spring season. Similarly, Paris has its cherry blossom days when the whole city turns all the more romantic and beautiful.
