Manipur declares 'Dry Day' on Nov 7 and 10 due to polls

Imphal: The state of Manipur has declared dry days on November 7 and 10 in view of the by-elections. November 7 is the polling day, and votes would be counted on November 10.

The notice has been issued by B John Tlangtinkhuma, the commissioner of Excise, Government of Manipur under section 135C of the Representation of Peoples Act, 1951 and in the exercise of the power conferred under section 17 (3) of the Eastern Bengal Assam Excise Act, 1910 which is extended in Manipur.

The order further states that no fermented, spirituous or intoxicating substances shall be sold or given in a hotel, shop, tavern or any other place, within a polling area during the period of 48 hours, ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll for election in the polling areas. This includes all the liquor license holders including the exempted categories.
